Action Awards
The Action Awards held at Harrup Park today recognised the community contributions to improving the lives of people with disabilities. Sharon Busch said "it was a great success and a highlight of Disability Action Week." Cathy Wilson commented on the good attendance levels with more than 80 people present.

DSQ Morning Tea
This morning the Botanical Gardens Cafe was host to more than 50 people for morning tea. The Disability Action Week function was an informal program where Government employees, Service Providers and Service Users shared morning tea. The highlight was Michelle Boles presentation of her Disability Action Week State Award.

Sector Drinks
Approximately 50 support workers, service users, managers, Disability Services Queensland and Community Partners met at Aqua Cafe Bar Restaurant for a networking event. Thanks to the generous support of The Carlisle Group a good time was had by all.

Refressing our Focus
Today the Disability Service Sector was challenged by a speaker from the Sunshine Coast Citizen's Advocacy Program to think about the destructive and dangerous ways in which the sector portray people with a disability.

Art Auction Success
This evening the Mackay community recognised the efforts of students who submitted art to be auctioned at the Art Auction and Wine and Cheese Night. The majority of art sold for over $100 each. Also auctioned was a print by John Smith who was a member of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Association.

The Week Begins
To mark the beginning of Disability Action Week there were stalls at City Centre Markets and a Family Fun Day at Life Stream Foundation in Mackay, Market Stalls in Bowen and Airlie Beach. See 2008 Activities for more details.
